Hello guys,
Since a few months I have some problems on my network and I can't find a good solution for it. I searched the internet but no luck so far. Hopefully somebody here can help me.
We use a Windows domain with a number of servers. (dc, exchange, file and print, vpn, etc)
The clients are Windows 2000 and XP. One of DCs is a Windows 2003 server and also acts as a file server. When people log on, I use kix to map a number of network shares. (a average of 5 mappings) These shares are on different servers and also the Windows 2003 domain controller. This server causes the problem.
The problem is that sometimes a mapped network connection from a client is disconnected after some time of inactivity. Now I know what you are thinking ->
"increase the autodisconnect value!!"
But that is not the solution, because I increased it to 8 hours! And still the connections gets disconnected. But even more strange: when this happens, Windows won't reconnect for 1-2 minutes! During this time I can ping the server, the server is reachable from other clients, but for some reason this share won't reconnect until 1-2 minutes have past... then suddenly the connection is back and everything is working again.
This happens not on all computers and some people experience this more than others. And also, this only happens with this particular Windows 2003 server, other 2000/2003 servers are not affected by this. The number of connected sessions to this server is a max. of 200.
Now I know it is probably too difficult to get a complete solution here, but if I could get some tips where to look for, that would be great! I have looked at the security log of the Windows 2003 server, maybe it has something with netbios-ssn (I notice sometimes netbios-ssn is used for file sharing, other times microsoft-ds... maybe this is the reason for my problem?)
Thanks guys for your support in advance!
