Since the North-east blackout, I have had this problem with several of the computers in my office.
-The mapped drives on the client machine disconnect, and the machine returns to system beeps for events.
-Access to shared folders, the internet, messenger and email are unaffected.
-I have no connections listed under network properties until I pull the network cable from the NIC.
-Uninstalling and reinstalling the NIC returns the connection, but only for a few minutes.
-Clicking on the mapped drive returns the error message that no network is present.
-Replaced hubs and checked all cabling.
-Restarted server and checked necessary services were started on both client and server
-All machines had surge protectors and UPS's.

Any advice would be appreciated. My next step is to replace the NIC's in all the affected machines.

By the way, Server Is NT4, clients are Win XP Pro
