Internet explorer works fine on my computer (and my wifes computer) IF and ONLY IF we disable the network card when we want to browse the net. No lags or anything (and just to make sure I have looked for the tracker class, used BHO cop, etc.) We have a simple p2p through a hub, both running win98se currently, and a Xerox Phaser 860 printer hooked to the network via TCP/IP. We can both be up and running, both network cards working fine, but IE (any version) has random 30-60 second lags about every 2-3 clicks. Click the button, and it just sits there for 30-60 seconds, then loads the page. I watch the dial up connection in the lower corner, and nothing is going on - it will every few seconds flash to show that my pc is sending something, but nothing coming in, then all of a sudden it comes in. Our computers do NOT affect each other - meaning that if my wife disables her NIC, she can browse the web just fine whether I have mine enabled or not. The same is true for me (we both have modems in our computers, and hooked to seperate phone lines). We let TCP/IP make it's own address, we do not assign one manually for the local (and dial up) network connections
This is driving me up the wall, there must be a simple fix. I have trid all combinations of the following:
Windows 98se
Windows ME
IE 5+
IE 6+
different network cards (Intel, SMC, Kingston).
And the problem is still there. Is there something in TCP/IP I need to change? Is IE looking for the web page on the local network before it looks to dial up? HELP!!!!!!!
