We are planning to use VOIP in our office. Since the new voip phones will use the same network, i would like to somehow separate the voice packets and the data packets. I'm thinking subnetting or VLAN. And i'm not sure at all how subnetting will work, or how to configure things in that manner. I do have an idea bout VLAN's, and I know our switch supports. Other big reason I wanna do this is because of collision. If a collision occurs between computers on the network that should not affect the voip phones and vise versa. My question is how can i do this, or what is the best solution? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

You will want to use QOS to guarantee that your VoIP traffic will always have a specific amount of available bandwidth. Extreme's website has some examples that would be good to use as a general guide line.
good luck

I used VLAN's. I Data one, and a Voice one. Then you setup the QOS profiles so that the Voice VLAN has higher Priority than the Data VLAN.

yep, use data and voice vlans. QOS profiles would need to be set. A well config dhcp will need to be set on your network. Which networking gear will you be using?
