I'm looking for someone who has taken both who can give me an idea of how difficult Net+ is. I've already posted a Q in thread468-1435675

Basically work might cover the exam cost if i take it but i'm not sure of the benefits as i'm already a MCSA on 2k/2k3 so i don't want to spend ages working towards it if it's won't benefit my CV.

I haven't taken it yet, I've just been reviewing some practice tests and it's not too bad. It's definitely more networking-focused than the MCSA, so if you don't have a lot of Networking experience I'd recommend at least getting a review book and practice tests.

As to whether you should get it, I would highly recommend it. Even if you weren't going to go the Networking route the A+/Server+/Net+ certs demonstrate a nice round skills foundation.

PCE, being that over the past 5 years I've seen some of your excellent advice concerning networks, I would think that just picking up a book, looking through it, you should have no problem with the test.

Saying that, I think you could get away with one of Mike Myers Passport books. When I took it in 2002, I used the "All in one" series by Mike Myers, and TCat Houser's ($59) network + study guide. The test actually seemed kind of easy. Maybe I over studied?

Anyway, since the test is vendor neutral, you'll have to leave the Microsoft answers at home...These questions are rather straight forward without the twists and turns Microsoft tests are famous for.

I found this, that will give you an idea of the questions you might get:

Nice one tfg13 i might pick up one of those books and take a look at that link. I'm trying to avoid getting work to agree to pay for the exam and books and then end up having to commit more time than i would like.

Cheers.

Looking at those questions it reminds me a bit of the old NT4 Networking Essentials book which i read from cover to cover back in the day :) i think i'll have this sorted in no time.

It's funny you should say that about time commitments and work. I've been in the business almost 10 years and never bothered with certs until my boss started pushing it. And it wasn't until I actually scheduled the exams and had them paid for that I was motivated enough to crank them out.
