I am assuming that you mean when you create the client for backup. Well the only fields that you have to fill in are the client name, and saveset. Everything eles is not required to get that client backed up unless you are doing something specific for that client.
You can also change the browse, retention, and directives. The fields like backup commcand, remote access, etc... are used but not for basic backup and recovery if you have a particular question about a specific field post it here.
Thanks for the post - The only real information i want populated is the client version - I want to use the server to see what version of legato each client is riunning without having to physically go onto each client.
I use the NetWarker on WindowsNT and there you are able to see the version when you make a right click on the client and choose "edit". Then you have to choose "Client Information" and there in the field "NetWorker version" you see the Client version.
when you start on the networker server a group from the command line with the command "savegrp -v -p groupname".
Networker will start the group contact the clients in this group and will you print out a lot of information also the client version..
This may have to do with the level of the server/client you are running.
I think that this feature has been added at 5.1 or maybe just 5.5.
Both the server and the client have to be above this version to have (record) the information in the client definition.
When you do a "savegrop -pvvvvc ClientName -G GroupName" is the operating system level and Networker client level reported back by the client?
