Win 2k SP1 using Intel 8255x 10/100 (its built in!) connecting to NT 4 domain. All other computers seem fine but the only 2 2000 Pros hang on a regular basis.

Don't know if it is connecting to the domain, the hardware or 2000 causing it, but it goes about 5 times a day.

Anyone got any knowledge of this? Currently running Silicon Graphics Dual PIII550, 512MB, dual 9GB LVD, Office 97 and 2000 to NT and Exchange. Only seems to be network stuff.

Any error messages in Event viewer? Can you reset it by logging out or do you need to do a soft reset of the box? Are these NICs trying to autoneg the connection? If so, lock them down as I've seen the auto cause no end of troubles.

NICs set to auto - changed to 100Mbs/half duplex and still the same problem. Another identical machine set to 10Mbs/half duplex does the same.

Nothing in the event log.

DHCP from the NT server? It has to be something network related as it does not crash when you log on locally and work with network disabled.

<pulls hair out>

What kind of switch/hub are these plugged into? Have you lock their ports too? Speaking of DHCP, have you given the 2 problem children static IPs/gatways? Do they go through a router? Pure IP or are you running other protocols like IPX or Netbeui?

Both intel cards go to cisco 2924s. One is 10/100 auto detect, other is 10 meg only. Have not given manual IP address, will try it next. Don't go through router to DHCP - use firewall to get to the Net. Pure IP throughout.

Can only use Outlook 2000 for about 4 minutes now before it goes thingy up.

Any luck in figuring this one out?

Set both the local card and the Cisco port to 100Mb/s. Cut the hangs down to one yesterday.
That could have been me.

Am testing further - will report back.
