Network cable unplugged on Windows XP Home

I just installed a Linkskys wireless PCI card on new PC running XP home.(Wireless router is on a PC in another room) The Internet connection works fine on new PC, but I am getting a message in the taskbar that a Network cable is unplugged. Does this have anything to do with Windows XP, or have I just wasted money on a card to share the internet connection, is it possible that the NIC card already on the new PC would have connected with the Linksys router in the other room? XP is updated.

I'm not sure I understand. Does the new pc already have a NIC in it? Ethernet, I assume. If this is the case, you would get the cable unplugged error because there is no cable plugged into it. Also, if this is an ethernet card, it would have to be a wired connection to a wired router. So unless your router accepts wireless and wired connections, it wouldn't do you any good.

The "unplugged" message means that the LinkSys wireless was unable to load properly. Use the "Instant Wireless LAN Montior" and check all your settings and make sure they match to each and every other wireless. Especially check channel and encryption.
