network access problem

There is a small problem I am facing. I have a linux server running rh8.0 and with 2 ethernet cards. One is having the ip address 192.168.0.23 and this is connected to the INTERNET connection. I am able to browse the net on the linux box.

I have another network card and I have given it the Ip address 192.168.0.29. The problem is that other machines on the network running Windows and Linux are not able to ping the linux box on either of the IP ADDRESSES. What could be the problem. changing IPs did not help. Please help out as this is urgent, because I need to configure squid on the linux server.

Have u configured any firewall on u r linux box?

Yes depending on what you did during installation your box is probably fairly well locked down. Try accessing the boxes webserver from another machine (thats if you installed one).
Read the RH documentation on configuring the firewall.

Hi

I think u must first remove one local lan card. e.g. eth0.
start the machine. enable add configuration for ethernet card eth0 give ip address for eth0(e.g. 172.168.6.16). Activate it. check again the internet connection. if connection is ok then studdown the machine.
Now this time u have to attach the second ethernet card eth1. start the machine. configure the ethernet card. Again give the ip address for eth1 (e.g. 192.168.1.1). Activate this also.
Give the window client ip address as 192.168.1.2.
now i am sure by doing this u must be able to ping eth1 of your host machine.
and if u set route or set firewall then u can ping to eth0 of your host machine also.
if any extra problem occurs then convey me.
