Hello,

I know this is going to sound a bit strange but a friend has a network with a dsl line. The Modem is also a router, that has two ports. in one port he has one computer and in the other port he has another router.
the first router address is 192.168.1.1 the second router is 192.168.2.1
He was able to talk to all of his compuers but now 192.168.1.100 cannot see any of the computers in 192.168.2.1x

But the computers in 192.168.2.1x can ping 192.168.1.100 and can access shared files only if he types ||192.168.1.100

is there a way to have all of the computers to talk to each other, or because they are in different segments they cannot talk to each other.
I should mention there is no server, he has a workgroup and all of the computers have the same workgroup name

any help is greately appreciated( this is dirving me nuts :) )

Hi there,
I suppose you have three subnets. One directly connected to router 1, one directly connected to router 2 and the other between the two routers.
The router knows all subnets that are directly connected to it.
Your problem might have two reasons.
One could be that you have not declared a route between router1(192.168.1.1) to the subnet connected to router 2.
The other problem could be that you have not declared a default gateway on your workstations. Declare the router of the subnet as your default gateway.
There should be a way to make your PC's talk to each other.
bye, busche

Thanks,

I went the easy way, I eliminated one of the routers, I did not see a reason for it, we only needed one router. The privious IT manager installed a connection from the dsl modem-router that has 4 ports to another router that has 4 ports, to anoterrouter that has 4 ports.
So in essence I had 3 routers, I only needed 1 subnet to be segregated from the main network wich I did. I put a switch from router 1 then from router 1 I connected router 2 and that i whare the connections that do not need to see the network live.

Thanks for the help
