theoreticly, yea, it will work.
All settings would be in your VPN, you should not have to change anything on your Netware server.
The only difference I would make on the client is the login method. No real differences in configuration. For logging in, I would use full user DN and server IP address instead of short user name, tree, context, server name. By entering the IP address in server name you by pass any need for SLP to locate the server. Doing this you then have to specify full DN for your user ID so it can be found in the tree.
Now, doing this means you did not have to reconfigure the lcient after install. If you choose, you can program the SLP info into the client. If at any point you said "SLP?", go talk to your sys admin, if you are admin, that talk to your intergrator or look up SLP in the manual.
Through a VPN, you real consern will be name resolution. How will it be done and what functionality do you expect. VPN software works different from vendor to vendor. When I use Novell's VPN, all traffic goes through VPN, and local traffic will get redirected to the VPN. This means, you can connect to the VPN, but if you want to do a web browser lookup, the traffic will go through the VPN, not your local connection. But Novell's VPN is also an entry level VPN in my opinion. Better VPN solution would allow you to use both the VPN and your local connection and will determin what traffic goes were (CheckPoint has a really good one).
I hope your a really small company, you bought a product that was intended for the home, not really a business (even though it's marketed for small business). If just a couple of users want to use it, you will be okay. If over 8 people want to use it, invest in a better VPN solution.
I can't even find a reference to the DS-601 client software you speek of. Are you sure you got the right parts? When I scanned through the manual for the DI-804HV I see no reference to a client to site VPN model, just a site to site VPN model.
