I am running Backup Exec V9.0 under Netware Small Business Server V5.1. The Server is patched to Service Pack 2A. The Server is a Compaq Proliant machine with internal Compaq DLT tape drive.

When the users go home at night everything seems to be running fine. However, by the morning the Server is in a hung state. No one can log on. The only scheduled activity is a full overnight Backup Exec backup running at 8:00pm and the NetWare disk compression running at midnight.

According to the log the backup job runs without errors and finishes well before midnight.

In the morning, the screens on the Server appear frozen. There is no indication of an ABEND. The Server can only be shut down by using CTRL ALT ESCAPE and selecting the Down the Server option.

This problem has only occurred after installing Backup Exec. There have been a small number of successful backups.
But now the system hangs overnight.

When the Server is restarted everything appears OK.

The tape drive has been replaced by the Compaq engineer as a precaution. All of the tapes are new or less than 6 months old.

The only applications running on the Server in the day are Exchequer Accounts software, Microsoft Office, Groupwise, Powerchute UPS software and NDPS printing Services.

Any help on this problem would be most welcome
