NetWare oportunistic locking setting

We consolidated our Macola business units onto 1 NetWare 6 server running Pervasive 2000i. We are having issues with speed and workstation lockups when accessing files.

Does anyone know if the server settings of Level 2 oplocks and client file caching should be off or on? I am seeing TCP/IP errors 32 and 60 in the pvsw.log but this could be due to users doing end task to get out of locked applications.

When you say you consolidated, I take it they were on different servers before? If so what were the old servers? also Novell?

Yes the business units were on separate Novell servers. However the NetWare version was 5 on the old servers and is 6 on the consolidated server.

Are Files, Handles, and clients configured by Pervasive?
These all Peak higher then the maximum in the Pervasive monitor but I see no configuration setting in the control center.

Files, Handles and Clients in PSQL 2000 are dynamic but there is another setting I would check called 'Number of Sessions'. It is set up in the control center under configuration | server | Access. I would set that to the number of users you have * the number of screens each person is going to open at any one time.

You also need to change the file version to 6 even though it defaults to 7 when pvsw is initially installed.

Yes, I reset the file version to 6 when I installed the Pervasive.

did you try the pervasive forum or their dev talk? it sounds like you might have multiple issues. If other apps that access the macola files aren't choking like crystal, ms access, ms excel/query, etc., perhaps you need to tweak macola, turn down virus or adaware or spylot software. I only have one site still left on novell, v6, and we are tweaking like mad still using pervasive 8.6. In particular, the novell client for xp seems to cause problems from time to time depending on the version. No surprise, since we all should have bought microsoft stock in the 70's.
