What does Netware Media Manager do and why would it take up 35 meg of memory? Can it be configured to use less memory?

The Media Manager on my server uses about 8MB of ram. The Media Manager module controls how Netware talks to the volumes. Do you have the latest service packs installed? What are you volume sizes and how much ram do you have installed? Are you having performance problems?

We are running Netware 5.1 service pack 5. The server has two volumes: SYS volume has 6 gig, VOL1 has 45 gigs spread across 5 physical drives in a raid 5 setup. We have 2 gig of memory. We do have performance problems intermittently. Server will jump up to above 80 percent utilization and everything comes to a halt...users can't do anything.

Do you have conlog loaded? If so, it may contain messages from the console that you can read and figure out what's causing the problem. The RAM sounds to me like enough for the size of your volumes, but are you using NSS volumes or traditional volumes? On the hardware side, check to make sure that you have the latest drivers from the vendor. I know HP, Dell, and IBM all post new hardware drivers from time to time to address these types of issues. It would be great to find out what causes the utilization to jump right before a crash. I'm running service pack 8 here, with no problems. I haven't run service pack 5, so I can't comment on that.
