I have a client that is running Netware 4.11 with Groupwise 5.5. Thay have been told that they can not change their Domain Name without completely rebuilding the box from scratch. I know you can change the Internet Domain Name within GroupWise. Does this effect NDS in anyway? Can the NDS tree be renamed or would I need to start over? Or can I simply change the Internet Domain Name in Groupwise and call it a day?

Thanks,
Jeff

Change the Internet domain name in GW and call it a day. the GroupWise system name (domain name) has NO effect on the outside world.

This is a Groupwise posting really.

The only way to do this is to create a second domain in your system. Call it what you want the domain/postoffice to be in the new system.

Move all the users from original postoffice to the new postoffice under the new domain.

You now need to split of this new domain into its own system. You do this via nwadmin.

You will need an mta/poa for the new domain by the way. It can run on at the same time on your existing server for now.

When you split of the domain it will ask for a new system name. Put in the one you want it to be changed to.

After the split etc you will need to check all the settings for poa etc but this, as said in previous posting is a major pain for the sake of it looking good in nwadmin. Lee Smith

There should be NO need to have to change the GroupWise domain name. If it is the Internet domain name, then you simply change the Internet domain name and move on with your day.

I know there should be no need to, but I had a couple of customers who have changed there company name and did not want anything with there old name on, even something as irrelevant as the gwise name.

My info was in case the gw domain name HAD to be changed, as governed by someone higher in the organisation.

As per my posting I agreed with you that there is no gained benefit in changing it. Lee Smith

my bad, I didn't think about reasons for having to change the GW Domain. Thanks for the info.

Yet another reason I like these forums.
