Hi,

I'm trying to find out if there is a way to get around the XP local workstation login, for Novell logins that do not require a password.

When I setup a Novell account that doesn't require a password, the XP login for the local workstation pops up asking for a password and username. The account for the new user does not exist on the local workstation.

The reason for the no password Novell account is for new employees, that that will be forced to change their password after the first login.

I know it worked fine with Windows NT. I thought maybe there is something I can disable in XP to accomplish the same thing.

Something has to authenticate locally. Zenworks includes a feature called Dynamic Local User which accomplishes this easily and well. Alternatively, you could configure the local administrator account to always log on automatically.

Ouch! Local admin? Don't ever let your users have that!
I made that mistake on a few boxes, and I've only got one suffix to speak of, and you'll cringe... : -ware.
Yup. Bad bad.

You can also set up a default novell password that expires today, no grace logins, gotta change your password *now*, and remember it!

-No tiengo caballero, but I have un briquet.

set the user up in console1 with a default pwd that must be changed when they login
the dlu will create account
problem solved

Ok I have serious issues with people that run networks with no passwords for the users. It's not secure, you're opening yourself wide open for problems whether it be hacks, insiders, or just dumb mistakes. Require passwords and never look back.

Better solution. Assign passwords, use DLU, and require a network login to even access the PC. No local accounts except for Administrator and whatever DLU creates.
