Hi all,
I just installed netware 6 sp5 server to our tree with 2 netware 6 sp5 and 7 netware 5 sp8 servers, everything went fine and seems that some 5 sp8 servers in the tree can see the new server but others won't. the other 6 sp5 servers see the new 6 sp5 servers ok. when I go to dsrepair -a --advance option--servers known to this database...on the new 6 sp5 server, I only see the local server and other two 5 sp8 servers but not all of them. but when I go and do the same in one of the Netware 5 sp8, I see all the servers even the new server. I install this server to make it the main replica server but I'm just concern why is not listing all the servers. right now this server doesn't hold any replica. I ping the new server from all the servers and everything is ok, also I can ping all the servers from the new server ok..
can anybody give me a tip to see whats going on here?

thanks.

Check your SLP configuration against the 'normal' NW6 servers. Sounds like you may have a scoping issue.

Lawnboy,
I did this command: Display slp services bindery.novell
on the new server and showed all the servers, I made a comparison of the slp settings on the other netware 6 server
and they looked the same.

thanks.

First off, like LawnBoy says, SLP is important here. SLP helps your servers talk to each other. Troubleshoot that and make sure SLP is solid first.

Second, don't try to put a replica on until you get the communication problems resolved. You're just going to muck things up.

If it helps, go to DSREPAIR and run the following from the main menu:

- Time Synchronization
- Report Synchronization Status

You will see errors there that you should be able use to better troubleshoot and understand the communication status from the server's point of view.

Can you post your slp.cfg? It's in SYS:ETC. Is it identical to another NW6 server?

Hello Guys!
Problem solved.
Sinc this was a new server in the tree, and have no relica on it the server was not able to see all the servers, once I put a red/write relica on it, I was able to see all the servers..
thanks all for the help.

Glad this made it work for you, but I suspect you have found a bandaid, not a long term solution.

Having a replica has nothing to do with being able to see the other servers.. I've worked in 100+ server environments where the tree had a total of 3 replicas.. Everything was fine. Replicas are not required for server communication.

Marvin,
Acording to the novell engineer that was the reason why....
Marvin, I have a different question, on a lab enviroment I have acouple servers and the time was ahead 10 minutes, on the single time server(netware 6 sp5) I went ahead and moved the time bakwards and it gave the synthetic time after a few hours the server was on the normal time and everything seems to be ok, when I do the time command I get this:
server1:TIME
Time zone string: "EST5EDT"
DST status: OFF
DST start: Sunday, April 2, 2006 2:00:00 am EST
DST end: Sunday, October 29, 2006 2:00:00 am EDT
Time synchronization is active.
Time is synchronized to the network.
Wednesday, March 22, 2006 12:04:56.687 pm UTC
Wednesday, March 22, 2006 7:04:56.687 am EST

what I need to know is if the line that says "synchronization is active" should be there?
is it normal to be there? or is something else waiting to happen?

thanks.
