My NetWare 6 server, SP3 and nw6nss3b.exe along with Arcserve 7 abends with "CPU Hog detected by timer". Checking the Abend log I have found that this abend takes place while Arcserve is running. Any Ideas?

Which process causes the abend ?? Does the server abend during the backup or during database (Btrieve/Pervasive)operations ?

regards

Looks like the database process.......

I had a similar abend in Netware 6 and CA suggested I patch btrieve using the service packs (3 & 4) found on Pervasive's website.

Below is the fix from CA email Tech Support. I did this about a week ago and all is well... so far.

Check the Btrieve.nlm and for the Version 7.x or above Locate the Bti.cfg
Under sys:system and verify the settings with the Doc at the URL
Make Sure that there are no other Applications Running on the server that
Use Btrieve Other than the Arcserve before Making these Changes
Edit the Following Values in the file as follows
ìMicroKernel+
MaxFiles =250 (default is 20)
MaxCursors=150 (default is 60)
MaxCursors=150 (default is 60)
CacheSize=65536 (default is 1024)
MaxClients=150(default is 30)
BackgroundThreads=25 (default is 4)
ìBtrieve Communications Manager+
MaxWorkerThreads=25 (default is 3)
MaxClients=150 (default is 15)
Reboot the server reload Arcserve

Hi,

I too had the problem. I patched Btrieve with SP3 and SP4 as Domburi did but I also changed the BTI.CFG settings. The patching will upgrade Btrieve from 7.51 to 7.90.

P.S. I was concerned with Btrieve licensing but there is a note in SP4 that indicates that the license count will not be affected.
