hi all,

When we first put netware 6.5 in many moons ago, we had a problem with the logical processor causing multiple abends, so in the bios we went and turned them off. however, hardware's changed, and with the new dual core technology, we've started to get the same thing. i'm guessing i need to move to a higher service pack, but not sure what affect this would have on the tree. We have 180 sites running sp1, including the replica dist boxes as well. any pointers would be helpful.

Dual cores don't have the same issues as hyperthreading. Dual cores are actually 2 processors, not just 'faked' to the OS.

With Intels newest processors, there are issues even on SP5 related to the processor.. SP6 fixes these, and it may depend also on the .PSM module you use.

You should have no problem having SP6 in your tree, but you may also want to get your Master of [root] updated as well. Hopefully your tree is healthy.

I like to have all servers at edir 8.7.3.9 as a minimum.

Thanks Marvin, helpful as ever!

do you know what's wrong when i go into nwconfig > product options, the nwconfig screen locks. Is there something i'm supposed to do before? maybe unload a specific NLM?
