Hi all, I'm trying to find a way to use rsync to migrate our user data from our NW6.5 server to a new win2k3 server.

I did find this thread thread871-1038138 and it helped but I can seem to be able to get rsync loading as a daemon. The nlm I have is from the COSP2 download from Novell.

I'm sure you'll need more info so just ask.

TIA

(PS I'm not pleased about ditching my NW box)

I would suggest dropping the rsync idea. Novell dropped it from NetWare because of issues with the open source maintainer and will not support the use of the tool unless you are a customer still using Branch Office and retain a maintenance agreement.

Take a look at this blog,

it has a really good plan on doing the same thing you are looking to use rsync for. Plus side, it's supported, and you have a better change of finding someone who has already done it this way than the rsync way.

Thanks for the link.

I actually started there but that util needs to sync the whole tree to AD before you can migrate the files. I set up a test AD forest and it made duplicate accounts and I couldn't change the map file (if you change anything in it the check fails and it won't load).

I was able to get rsync running as a client on the Netware box so I can push everything to a rsync server.

Is this something Novell IDM can take care of for you?

No we are dumping Novell :(
I just needed to move everything to a windows file server.

The AD domain is fully populated so I can't sync the users since they don't all match and will cause dups. The rsync is working quite well it's just a pain to reset all the rights. On the other hand it's a good time to find out who really needs access to what. After 11 years I'm sure there are some loose perms out there.
