I have a new server with 5 gig or ram 400 gig Raid 5 HP server trying to install netware 6.0 sp5 gets past the Lan drivers and abends the abend message is "abend on P00 page fault processor exception error code 00000000" does any one know if nw6.0 can handle the amount of memory when going thru the install or should I pull some of the memory out.

The problem is probably your LAN driver, if that is where it abends. What LAN driver are you using? What type of server? WHat Network card? Can you get a newer version?

There shouldn't be any issue with the Memory.

the server is a HP Proliant ML350 5 Gig of Ram 400 Gig Raid 5 disk space the Nic is a 3Com 3c985 Fiber channel card there is no updated drivers on the 3Com web site the only driver newer would be from netware 6.5 sp5
the Raid controller card is a Hp Raid card in the AM to find the problem Going to pull the Nic card out and see if the problem goes away..

Does this ML350 have an integrated NIC? Why not Install the server using that (you have to have a NIC installed to even go through the installation).. Then, after you get the server up and running, switch over to the 3COM and troubleshoot any problems that come up.

Well after working on the server friday took the lan card out of the server still had the same problem talked to Hp on the problem and they will not support netware 6.0 on the server and said 6.5 will be supported. This time loaded the server with netware 6.5 and the server works with 6.5. in order to migrate the 6.0 server to 6.5 I thing my best approach will be to run an inplace upgrade from netware 6.0 to 6.5 then migrate the old server to the new server. I have not heard any thing good about migrating from 6.0 to 6.5 with out having problems. have you ever run a server 6.0 migration to 6.5 with out any problems.

personally never had a great deal of problem with it

just make sure you use the latest version of the mig wizard
the copy part isnt the quickest

only problems i have every had was the ds dint load - it was just a case of restoreing the file and going again, and also once the server stayed as a 6 - thats was just a case of deleting some file in the nwserver dir
then a few tweaks

A migration isn't a big deal, But personally I would just do an inplace upgrade.

Bring server NW6.0 up, startx into the GUI. Install. Point to the NW6.5 OS CD. Step through. reboot when it tells you to. You're done.

Across the wire is simple and painless (just time consuming).

Be sure you have a floppy handy (and there is a floppy drive in the servers). You will need it to migrate the NICI.

Some pointers I can give:

when you install the NW6.5 on the destination server, install the bare minimum. Yea, I know you want to use iPrint and all the other kewl web functions in 6.5, but if you install them now, they will be a thorn in your butt after. This is because the migration does not fix any of the web services that get configured to use your temp tree and temp IP address that you setup the destination server with. Just install the base OS, migrate, then do a post install of the products you want so the install configures them right for you.

But if you like walking on the wild side, install the products first, migrate, find that iManager and other web services are broken ..... then spend the next week fixing all of them. By the end of the week you will know more about how the web services work then you ever have (or maybe even cared to know).

DO not be scared to halt a migration because you do not have a VERIFIED and COMPLETE backup. yea, it causes a delay that managment would get all pesky about. But if lighting strikes in the middle of your migration and zaps both ends and the current files open get lost ..... you'll be thankfull you made sure you had a backup.

And migrate sys manually, don't let the Migration Wizard do it for you.
