I am trying to apply a service pack so how to find a CD ROM drive in Netware 5.

Hi,

Did you try "load CDROM"? What happens when you type that?

Lou

When I type load cdrom ---cd rom is loaded but then when I go to nwconfig to product option and to install a product not listed. Here I am not sure how to specify a path to the correct Dir.a:\ is default now what shoud i type if I want to get to Install.exe on a CDROM drive

You cannot run executables on the server itself. Let's start from the begining:

When you put your CD into your CD drive and type CDROM at the console, the CD mounts as a volume. Type VOLUMES at the console to find the CD volume name. When you go into NWCONFIG and specify the path, you have to type the CDROM volume name as the path. For example, if your CD had a label of NW51SP5, you would type NW51SP5: as the path. WHen you are installing a Service Pack, you don't run an executable, you tell the NWCONFIG installer where the required NLMs are to do the installation. -----------------------------------------------------
"It's true, its damn true!"
-----------------------------------------------------

When I type Volume at the command prompt I get to volumes Listed.

SYS:
NSS_ADMIN (IS this an NSS Volume)

Now where is the volume for CDROM. When I type scan for all devices I get 3 devices I get

HArd disk
CD ROM
Tape Drive( as Unbound Device Object).

Ok, with your CD in the CD drive, what happens when you type CDROM at the console? -----------------------------------------------------
"It's true, its damn true!"

With CD Inside the Drive I type CD ROM at the Prompt & I get

Moving ISO9600 CD Volume 030219_1305 to active state. Activate Volume 030219_1305 Mounting Volume 030219_1305.
030219_1305 Mounted successfully.

Hi again,

Then 030219_1305 is the name of the CD. If you type volumes at that point you should see 030219_1305 listed as one of the volumes. In Nwconfig you need to type o3o219_1305: and then the rest of the path to the IPS file (i.e. 030219_1305:nw5sp6a).

Lou

Volume Name is the CD LABEL

This time when I typed at the Prompt List devices
SYS DOS, LON
NSS_ADMIN DOS, MAC ETC
ASNW70 DOS, MAC (This is the Volume for CDROM)

I did manage to apply the serive pack by copying the Service pack to the server SYS volume and then pointing to sys volume for Installation.
