Hi Guys,

Sorry in advance for my lack of knowledge regarding this subject and what may be a stupid question....

We currently have a Netware 5.0 server which is many years old and the complete system needs to be replaced. I have a shiny new server ready to roll which has Netware 5.0 installed with the latest SP.

Our plan is to backup the NDS on the old server, transfer the file to the new server, and restore the nds there. Then run a dsrepair and hope fully all will be OK.

My question is - are print queues part of the NDS, or is there another method of transferring them to a new server.
Also, Ive noticed that when you backup the NDS is leaves it in a locked state. Is there a way of unlocking this if my restore on the new server does not work as planned.

Thanks again for any advice.
Jamie

look at the tid on dsmaint

or run the migration wizard (lot of peeps dont like this but if you get latest version from download - then it runs sweet]

Migration wizard won't let you migrate 5.0 to 5.0, only 5.1 to 5.1 and above (might have somthing to do with 5.1 no longer being supported?).

This FAQ may help you some faq871-4066

Key items are, server name MUST match and internal ID MUST match.

You can dork with your print queues to try and get the to come over, but it would be easier to just recreate. The NDS objects will carry over with out issue, but you would also have to bring over the queue directories, and then link them back to the queue object. Easier said than done in most cases. Just recreate them with the same name. As long as server name, tree name, and context remain the same, your users will reattach to the queues with out issue.
