I have a client running Netware 3.12 and for the time being it must remain in the network. We are looking to add a w2003 server to control the desktop users with group policy. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to accomplish this task?
As far as the Netware 3.12 server goes, the only requirement you must have is to use IPX/SPX as the protocol to connect. As for controlling the desktop with a group policy, see the W2K3 forum for info on how to do that.
If this is a large deployment, have you considered upgrading the Netware to 5 or 6 and using the policy and profiles management in ZenWorks?
I'm guessing this is a small company -- less than 100 users. In the interest of your clients financials, you'd be better off to sell them NetWare 6.5 Small Business Suite which includes ZENworks. As iolair mentioned, ZEn can be used to manage all that and more.
But it's only about $200 per 5 users for an upgrade plus any time you put into it. I don't think you can touch that with Windows.

Thanks for the replies, Due to situations beyond my control we cannot do anything to the Novell server! No upgrades patches etc...... It seems from the postings that trying to integrate Windows Server 2003 with AD may be problematic at best. If any one has attempted this I would love to hear from you.
If you are planning on migrating to Win2K3 anyway yes you can connect the users/computers to a Win2K3 domain and manage them using Group Policy. As Iolair mentioned the clients still need IPX/SPX and Client services for Netware (or GSNW on the server) in order to be able to communicate with the NW 3.12 server. I had this environment running at a previous contract without issue (though using Win2K server)
