Hi all.

The company that I work for is looking to implement a VPN for use by our travelling salesmen, engineers and homeworkers.

At present we connect to the Internet via MS Proxy over a dial-on-demand ISDN router which operates as a packet filter.

We will be having a 512kb on 2Mb leased line provided by our ISP together with a managed router. Ideally to keep costs down I want to purchase one single box to act as a hardware firewall and VPN gateway. From the discussion I've had with the two suppliers who are in the running for providing the complete solution we've narrowed it down to either Intel's Netstructure 3110 or Watchguard's Firebox2.

The guys who are bidding to supply the Watchguard box have slated the 3110 as not being a firewall and not being suitable for use as specified. The guys who want to supply the 3110 suggest that this is bull.

Can anyone advise me on this? Ultimately the box will sit between a NIC on our proxy server and the router (I assume).

Also any other views / opinions on the relative pros and cons of each box??

Sorry for the length of the pos!

Kind (if slightly confused) regards,

Mark Wheeler
