Hi,

Every morning when I go to log on to my server it is showing an unknown software exception (0xe0070001) in the application at location 0x7c4ea4e1. This turns off my NetShield. In the event viewer it says "a thread in process C:\Program Files\Network Accociates\NetShield2000\Mcshield.exe took longer than 30000 ms to complete a request. Process will be terminated. Thread ID: 1512 (0x5e8")

I am running 2000 server with NetShield 4.5 and scan engine 4.1.6. Anyone know how to stop this? It happens every night and rarely during the day.

Yes, this is a known issue I have had myself.
It is due to the scanner taking too long to scan a file and timing out. I would hazard a guess McShield is crashing during your nightly backup.

There is a NAI Knowledgebase article regarding expanding the scanner thread timeout from 30000ms to 110000ms in 10000ms steps. In my experience this did not solve the issue. Look for the NetShield Hotfix Rollup. This does solve the issue. Located on NAI's download pages.

Would also recommend upgrading to the 4.3.20 engine as 4.1.60 is no longer supported.

Found the article on NAI's knowledgebase...
