before i dig my hole any deeper, how did i manage to nuke Netscape in the root account , but it is every where else?

oh yeah - once i did something similar, but it was all the desktop icons - root only also.

i've only used root for system work, like mandrake updates, etc, so normally i'm not in there to notice when things have gone awry.

i'm new at this, and would like any advice

thanks [sig][/sig]

Do you have a ".netscape" directory in root's home directory? (Notice the leading "." character.) If you do, try removing it and then running Navigator. Navigator should recreate the directory with all of the required files.

I would recommend, however, not running Netscape as "root". Because of Netscape's notorious instability and large resource requirements, if things were to go wrong while running it as "root", you may end up with a locked system. like you recommended, i normaly dont use the root account, i was in there installing a piece of software, and thats when i noticed things were off.

thanks.
