Netscape download problem

With Netscape V6.2.2 when I download some .exe files they get changed to a '.mail extension', create mulitple copies of themselves in documents/settings which I can't change the default save location (another problem) and open up endless new Netscape windows untill I close Netscape. JPEG's are ok, only in Netscape V6.2.2
V4.73 was OK and Opera V6, which I run all the time is ok also.

Any ideas? I uninstalled and reinstalled fro a full version and from the Netscape site with their setup mini-file.
