Three weeks ago, my hard drive failed. Now I have a new hard drive, but all my programs have to be reinstalled (and in some cases, repurchased -- ouch). I installed Netscape 7.1 as my browswer of choice.

Now, when I try to save a file to my HD, either by right-clicking or by ^F^A, Netscape lies to me -- it SAYS it's saving what I want to save, but all I get is a shortcut that doesn't even appear in the directory, but can only be found via a search.

I've been hunting the Net for about a week, and the most information I can find is that I'm not the only person who has this problem. My guess is that it's a configuration issue or a security issue, but I've tried every combination of every variable I can think of, and nothing works but switching to I.E., which is tedious. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

I can't tell you how to fix it, but I can offer something else. I understand Netscape is based off Mozilla. If you like the look/feel of Netscape, you could try switching to Mozilla, which has never given me this sort of problem.

Try this:

Ctrl-E= Edit, then save. Has the advantage that you save the pics WITH the text.
