I have installed Netscape 6.1 on two machines thus far, both of which are running RedHat 7.1 (without any patches or updates). In both cases, Netscape will hang the X-windows session after a short time, necessitating a ctrl-alt-backspace to close KDE (my default environment, also unpatched).

Is there anyplace I can get some troubleshooting help for this issue? Netscape seems to say very little. I have to assume there is some kind of help forum out here somewhere...

Perhaps I am wasting my time, but web browsing in Linux is not nearly as pleasant as it is in Windows, and this browser seems to close the gap considerably. I would really like to make it work, especially the email client. I use multiple email addresses, and my server supports IMAP. This part has been fantastic, though it hangs when the browser does.

Restarting X is embarrassing... I'm trying to migrate to Linux in my office, and I would like to offer it as an option for my clients. This is one area that doesn't compare - but seemingly should.

TIA,

Steve

Hi,

Why not try opera for linux - It is my personal preferred browser and has addictive features like multiple tabbed pages within a single window. See --> .

For Redhat 7.x onwards mozilla itself is the preferred browser and netscape is no longer provided. Netscape 6 is, of course, based on mozilla with a few commercial tweaks and it could be that you've got a conflict if both mozilla and netscape 6.x are installed. If it were me I'd probably dump the nestcape and install mozilla.

Rgds

Mozilla is nice but it doesn't feel very safe to me->
when my browser starts caching things I can't remember
that I entered ,coughing up cookie info, and completing
my sentences for me, I feel like I am being fattened for the slaughter.;-)
Anyway you could check freshmeat and see what they have.
Netscape 4.x is pretty bad; konqueror seems very nice to me,
but I have been told that it needs work-> for the limited things I do with it, it seems fine.
