Netsaint

Hi all,

I have a 'weird' problem for a Linux Newbie.

I tried to install Netsaint 0.0.6 and, since I'm new to this, followed the directions on Netsaint's web page

http://www.netsaint.org.

For some reason it would not install as the user 'netsaint' and the only way to fix it was to make root the owner of the netsaint directory to do the make-install options.

This is on a Mandrake 8.1 installation.

I'm wondering if there are enough differences in distros to make this not install correctly (say, betwixt RedHat and Mandrake)?

Also, can anyone recommend a good network monitoring utility that also does graphical network mapping (like netsaint supposedly does!? ).

Hi,

















There are some rpms built specifically for Mandrake which would probably be the easiest to install. This is from the mandrake cooker project (

Just download then install as root :

















rpm -Uvh netsaint*.rpm











There are also rpms at the netsaint site itself -->

http://netsaint.sourceforge.net/download/rpm/

Incidentally, in general Mandrake and Redhat are very similar because mandrake is based on redhat but there obviously are differences in some areas.

It does. Thanks much.

I just wanted to play with it. Since I'm new at this Mandrake seemed the best choice (that and Red Hat 7.1 / 7.2 won't let me use a mouse under my cheap KVM switch, where Mandrake would). So I'll try that all out.
