Is it necccessary to have zero byte .netrc and .rhosts
files owned by root in the home directories of each user
on every node in HACMP env.
i have got such a system to administer?
should i remove each file except /.rhosts?
is it a HACMP requirement?
is it a security threat?

absi,

You only need a .rhosts file for the root user typically /.rhosts

HACMP uses UID of 0 i.e. root and invokes the rsh and godm daemons via inetd, the former i.e. rsh requires /.rhosts entries for all HACMP IP labels.

In terms of /.netrc this is not required for HACMP and all of the users .rhosts and .netrc files can be blitzed with no impact to the software.
