I've got this old sparc station 20 that i'm using for a personal firewall and everytime I reboot the machine it forgets the where the boot device is and what the date/time is. I've pulled all the cards out and looked for a battery and haven't found one.

So O wise ones...
1) where is the battery and
2) could the eeprom chip be bad?

Specs for the machine:
Sparc Station 20
64Mb of Ram
(2) 9Gb drives

thanks a bunch!

Gabe

The problem my be on how you are setting those parameters in the nvram.

You should be using nvalias, NOT devalias.

Finally got off my butt and dusted the box off. Found a great site on fixing a nvram with a dead battery

After a couple of attempts the nvram is now working again. Best of all, saved $20 and learned something in the process. :)
