NetLogon Service Failed to Start--server in a workgroup

We recently moved one of our web servers out to our DMZ. Because of this, we are not logging onto the network. Since the move, I can't get MSSQL Server service to run.

The event log says "the MSSQLserver service depends on Net Logon service which failed to start because of the following error: The service has returned a service-specific error code." Looking at the net logon service, we are getting this log "This windows computer is configured as a member of a workgroup, not as a member of a domain. The Net logon service does not need to run in this configuration."

I apologize if there is a current article here about this--the search page on tek-tips was down for maintenance.

Does anyone know a workaround. I want to keep MSSQL on this box.

Is the SQL Server setup to run as a domain account? If it is you'll need to have it run as a local account or the system account (I would recommend a local account with minimal permissions).

Thank you for the reply.

I changed the MSSQL service to run with the local account, but I'm getting the same error about the dependent Net Logon Service.

Or are you saying something else? Are you saying I have to change the SQL server setup somewhere else? If so, where?

Thanks again.

You may need to do an uninstall and reinstall of SQL Server. SQL is supose to recognise that it's not a member of the domain any more.

I'm not sure what else I can recommend that you look at to fix it without reinstalling.
