Netlogon 5774 - Registration of the DNS record

Hi,

I am getting every 2h a Netlogon error on Windows 2000 server.

Netlogon - Event ID 5774 - Netlogon 5774 - Registration of the DNS record record_name_and_dns_info failed.

I searched the error on ms technet site.

The solution for the error to disappear from eventviewer was to edit the regitery.

Is there another was to solve this problem.

Network info:
3 win2k server (2 domain controller and 1 File server)
The error appears on both domain controllers event viewer)
Workstations: Win2k PRO

Windows 2000 + AD is relying on DNS.
All information about services in the network are written there.
A DC needs acces to a DNS server that is supporting:
- SRV records
- dynamic updates (this is not a must, but , without it you will have that error)

So, check your DNS server. How is set, what DNS server is used by your DCs? How is configured your forward zone, do you have dynamic updates (yes/no/secure updates)?
