Hi all,
I have an HP zd7000 laptop with built in wireless, a westell DSL modem, and recently purchased a Netgear wgr14 wireless DSL router. All connections are fine, my laptop recognizes the router, and connection strength says "Excellent at 54 Mbs/sec". But, it takes me 2-3 minutes to load a webpage, if it lods at all. I called Netgear tech support and was on the phone with them about an hour, they ran all sorts of ping, and other tests, and said the connection was fine. I'm even having a really slow access to the router itself even when I'm wired. The router is in my bedroom, it doesn't matter where in the house I surf, it's super slow. My room mates laptop flies when he connects to my router. Any ideas?

Lets see if I have this right, your zd7000 (nice laptop, my wife has one) is slow when wired and slow when wireless, other people are fast when wireless to your router, but you think it is the router, not the zd7000's software? (would not be the hardware, as the wireless and wired are both slow)

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Yes, I would agree with you. What kind of software on my laptop would do this? I'm sooo frustrated, I'm ready to reformat my laptop and start from scratch. Any suggestions on where to start?

If it was me, I would go to and download adaware SE, spybot search and Destroy and hijackthis. Install
Adaware and spybot and take the updates. Then reboot into safe mode and run both programs to see what they find and let them delete what they can.

Reboot again and run them in normal mode, if all goes well you will not need hijackthis. If you do, the FAQs in the Virus/Spyware discussion here at tek-tips will help.
