HELLO
I just successfully established a connection between a netgear fvs318 and a win2k pro client using safenet saferemote v 10.0 ( purchased for about 184.00) i paid netgear 28.95 to help me establish the tunnel
every thing works fine , but the only problem is i cant get a logon screen o the win2k server to logon nor can i browse for computers by name , the only way i can find a resourse on the office lan is by searching my network places for computers by ip only , which is not very practical for my client
is there any way to browse the office lan by name and or logon to the server

thank you in advance

First, you don't get a logon screen when you connect to a LAN via VPN. In effect you are plugging your PC into the remote LAN as if you were physically there in the building. You log-on to your own PC and those credentials are passed around to get you access to LAN resources.

I believe you need to log on to the remote domain to browse the LAN, otherwise you can only access resources by name. If your client PC is running Win2K Pro or XP Pro you can log on to the domain when you log on to the PC using the dial-up networking option on the log-on screen.

If you can't access resources by name, only IP, you can manually correct this for key resources like the file and mail servers. Enter their IP address and name, separated by spaces or tabs, one system per line, in the PC's HOSTS file. This is usually in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc (or c:\winnt...). If there isn't one, create it in Notepad and make sure Notepad doesn't add .txt to the name.

THANK YOU
