I have two XP Pro clients connected through Netgear' DG814 in a workgruoup configuration using BT Broadband. For some unknown reason both PCs' tend to lose their addresses 192.168.02 & 03 to something like 169.254.x.x. on a regular basis. The only way out is to turn off/on DG814 first followed by PC's and most of the time it works. Or I may have to continue switching on/off until it finally rectifies.
So far I have taken the following steps but don't seem to be getting anywhere!

1. ICF on both PC's is disabled as I'm using Zone Alarm.
2. I used to have Adware V6.0 which is now been removed.
3. I had suspected WINSOCK & WINSOCK2 corruption which I
have deleted from Reistry and imported from from a good
working PC.
4. I have used netsh command to reset TCP/IP.
5. Both PC's obtain dynamic addresses from DG814.

Despite the above efforts I seem to be miles away for a permanant fix. Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated. Incidentally, DG814 reports modem firmware revision as 3.8.231.

Thanks

I used the above link last night. Started the PC this morning and it failed to go on-line. I appears to be something else! Any more suggestions please.

1. See if there is a firmware upgrade to the router.
2. Try increasing, if possible, the DHCP lease time on the router.
3. If still no joy, do an RMA return of the router.
