I am having trouble with a Netfinity 5600 8664-31y. I am trying to upgrade it from one 667 to two 733 pIII processors and have been running into some problems I cannot figure out. I have the proper vrm modules for both processors installed as per the ibm service manual. I also have configure the cpu dip switches for the new processors.

The problem I have is that once the SCSI bios starts looking for HDs, the temperature diagnostic LED on the side panel lights up and one of the 2 cpu error leds on the board will light up. which cpu error led lights up varries randomnly and I have tried 4 different 733 PIII processors which are know to work in other systems. shortly after these lights come on the system will power down. The ssystem works just fine with the single 667mhz pIII.

any help would be greatly appreaciated.

Are you at the current versions of BIOS and ASMP firmware? The current BIOS includes some Intel fixes for processors, and the current ASMP firmware contains fixes (from a previous update) that caused the system to power off when a CPU thermal trip was detected. You should flash the BIOS first, then the ASMP. After flashingthe ASMP, you should enter CMOS (F1) and reload default settings to synchronize the ASMP and BIOS. Good luck.
