Netfinity 5500 Raid not seeing replacement drive

Yes I have tried to scan for new drives... to rebuild the the drive after replacing it... setting the device state to ONL from DDD...
I also updated the device driver and the firmware after looking at an article on IBM's support site
I tried to rebuild while using the Linux Startup Disk... still no success
After updating the the driver and firmware it still doesn't see either the new drives (I've tried two different identical drives)
