I have a Netfinity 5000 (8659-2SY) with a PII 400 CPU - I decided to upgrade to a PIII 500 CPU - I removed the old CPU installed the new one and changed the switch settings according to the manual. But on power up nothing happened, just the fans kicked in and the POWER LED along with the HDD LED being on constantly, no display or beeps. I changed it back to the original config, but am still getting the same problem.

Any ideas?

Cheers

The fact that it powered on is a good thing. You can go to CMOS <F1> and take a look at the System Error log to determine why it won't POST. The 5000 predates the PIII, so a BIOS flash may be required to support the "new" processor. Flashing the ASMP would also be a good idea. After flashing both, enter CMOS and Load Default Settings to synchronize the ASMP and BIOS.

I cant get into the CMOS, as there is no display. I did flash the BIOS prior to installing the newer CPU. I suspect that somehow the motherboard has failed?
