I currently have a 3500 M20 server. I just replaced the three internal hards. When I try to install Windows 2000 OS, the system tells me that it cannot find the hard drives. I can't remember the driver that I use in the past to allow the hard drive to be recognized. Can anyone tell me what software I need to install so that the drives could be recognized. Thanks.

What controller are the HDDs connected to? The standard SCSI or do you have a RAID controller installed? If connected to the SCSI, can you see the HDDs via Ctrl+A? Have you verified media? Low-level format? You can do both from Ctrl+A. If connected to a RAID controller, have you created an Array? Logical Drive?

I have a RAID controller installed. I've attached three new hard drives. I believe there is some type of firmware that need to be installed.

If it's a ServeRAID controller, you need to download the ServeRAID Support CD, which will flash the controller to the current version of firmware, then launch the ServeRAID Manager configuration utility. From this utility, you will be able to create an Array (to group the drives), then create a Logical Drive (to set your desired RAID level), and optionally configure a Hot Spare. The CD image is available from:

Catorze, that you for your advise. I have burned the CD and it did update the firmware; however, I am still not able to install the OS. I states that I does not recognize or find the HD. I was not able to set array in the ServerRaid either. The HD are new, so that eliminates the HD. Please Help!!!!

Boot the the serveraid manager CD and create your Array.
Browse the serveraid manager CD on another Windows based machine and in the BOOKS folder there are some PDF docs you will need to create the device driver for your raid card. Once you have that driver created boot the the OS install CD and press the F6 key when prompted, you will see it across the bottom of the screen.
When the menu prompts you to insert your 3rd party drives diskette use the drive diskette you created via the instruction from the PDF docs, you should then be able to see the logical drive you created.

As I indicated, within ServeRAID Manager, you MUST create the Array and Logical Drive before attempting to install the Operating System. The Logical Drive you create will appear as a physical disk to the Operating System installation. With ServeRAID, the driver must be at the same version as the firmware applied to the controller. You can create the driver diskette from the CD, or from the same link, you can download a diskette image for your Operating System.

Thanks. I will try to create the array and let you know.
