I have two servers running NT4.0 SP5. I get intermittent loss of communication to clients and go and find that that I have to restart the dde service.
I get the following message in system event log:
event id:111 source: netdde
Too many response retries (4) for same packet from (hostname). Closing connection.
DrWatson netdde.dbg (exe)
exception number: c0000005 (access violation).
And the following in the drwatson log:
The application exe\netdde.debug generated an application error. The error occurred on (date/time). The exception was c0000005 at address 01b04c57 (<nosymbols>). Also in the log is a "FAULT" that points a different instruction but it seems the same parameters are involved. For example, on instruction is:
mov word ptr [esi], 0x5 ds:0015734a=????
My theory is the root cause is maybe a network issue (re the retries) but it shouldn't bomb out, should it? Any ideas?
