I have HP-UX B.10.20 A 9000/780 C180 workstation. I have directly connected this to 10/100 switch. No N/W in picture. Prob. is it does not show LED indication on my switch & hence no network connectivity. I changed patch cords & switch as well. lanscan output is like:

path staion H/W NetInterface MAC
address state NameUnit State TYPe
8/16/6 Blaaa.. UP lan0 DOWN ETHER

This works sometimes. Card is on-board. I can self-ping but it gives error no route to destination for others. Route is ok. Is it a h/w prob. or something to do?
Thanx in advance,

Jay

I am not sure weather you need crosover cable or not.

But your lanscan should show something like this
# lanscan
Hardware Station Crd Hardware Net-Interface NM MAC HP DLPI Mjr
Path Address In# State NameUnit State ID Type Support Num
2/0/2 0x080009765F10 0 UP lan0 UP 4 ETHER Yes 52

It should not says DOWN.
use ifconfig command to bring lancard in up stat.

Hi Patel,

Thanx a lot for your reply,
I also tried cross cable but it is still not able to connect or ping to other host. I also tried ifconfig lan0 up but it just comes out to prompt without any error & lanscan output remains same. And in sam->networking & communications->Network interface cards it shows N/W card lan0, 8/16/8.....not configured & IP 0.0.0.0 It even don't allow me to remove or add this card. In modify option it only updates /etc/hosts file. As this is built-in card & can't do anything. Expecting your reply,

Jay

Hi
There is one more thing you can check.
#ioscan -funClan

Is this card CLAIMED on output of this command? If not then you have driver problem. I had this same problem two years ago on c360. Most probable driver is "lan2".

In case if card is bad then you can use PCI network card. C180 has four PCI slots.

Try the following:

netstat -rn

Please post the output of this command.
