Hello, I have a Acer Aspire One Series Netbook and the kids "Claim" they didn't do it but ya know... Anyway, now that's all it will do is go to the Windows XP loading screen and sit there. I can tap the F9 key and it takes me to the black screen and I tried everything like boot in safe mode, last good ect. and every time it takes me to the Windows XP loading screen. What can I do? Thanks!

Thanks,

Can you access and load the Recovery Console?

How to install and use the Recovery Console in Windows XP

If you can then you can try the Command ChkDsk /r to check your hard drive.

Will it boot if you disconnect any hardware that you may have plugged in including USB?

The hard drive manufacturer will have free diagnostic software that is bootable, or that may even run from within Windows, that will thoroughly check the condition of your hard drive.

These are bootable RAM checkers.

You may get some additional clues from this thread, especially about software available such as BartPE and other rescue options.

Make sure your Bios is set for Safe Defaults too.

You can get special Adapters which will connect the broken Laptop's hard drive to another machine.

linney,
I can access the Bios and the windows loading screen only. I tried safe mode with prompt but it stops at the loading screen. Its a netbook and doesn't have a CD/DVD player. Is there anything I can put on a zip drive to run and get this thing running? Thanks!

Thanks,

Is the machine under warranty? I had a problem with one of mine and Acer was very good in fixing it. I think they just sent me a different one with my data loaded to it.

I sent mine to Dallas and received it back in three days. Acer paid postage and insurance both ways.

Does this machine have a Recovery partition and instructions and options for performing the recovery. If it does then that option may only give you a restore to factory defaults type of solution.

If you purchase an external CD, and if your Bios has the necessary options to boot from that CD then the options available to you may give you more choices.

First, the two options I have tried successfully:

Note: To activate the BIOS utility, press <F2> during POST.
It may be necessary to access the Bios to see if D2D recovery is enabled, or to change the order boot devices are accessed. See for specific manuals for the model.

The suggested way to access the recovery partition and restore factory defaults (D2D recovery) is to hold down <Alt> + <F10> when the Acer Logo appears on screen at startup.

Note: D2D Recovery is only available in notebook models fitted with a hard drive.

You may need to attempt it more than once to get the timing right. See for specific manuals for the model.

If D2D fails, then a bootable USB device may be required - either a USB external CD or DVD drive, USB stick or a pluggable USB multicard reader.

A Windows install disk, Live Linux distro disk, UBCD, Bart PE, Bootable USB stick like the Multiboot described here ( ) can all be used to access the Netbook drive in order to retrieve data and/or fix the problem.

I have not tried the following Bios recovery technique:
- if there are problems like bios passwords, so cannot recommend this.

Thanks I'm going to have to read and read some more then try it....

Thanks,
