The ports on our network recieve heavy netbios traffic from NT 4 workstations. We have windows 2000 server. Any ideas on how we can reduce this traffic? The workstations seem to be sending the netbios traffic to the last IP address in our domain.

Get rid of NetBIOS!!! ...and WINS for that matter. TCPIP and DNS should be enough to handle name resolution.

WINS is known to be chatter a bit (not quite as bad as IPX) and NetBios is not routable.

The fact that you are getting broadcast traffic to the last IP Address (I assuming .255) is common.

.255 is considered the address for Broadcast.

Good Luck!
