netbios aliases problem with sever string

I am trying to emulate more than one file server using samba.
I have a smb.conf file which contains the primary server netbios name, a netbios aliases line containing (at the moment) one alias), a smb ports =129 line, a bunch of default global settings, then a include = /etc/samba/%L.conf line

each .conf file has a netbios name line, a server string line,
and the share definitions for that virtual server.
It all seems to work fine, apart from the server string text for the alias(es) is ignored and the master server string is used instead.
Has anyone got any suggestions. ps i am using samba 3.0.23c

While I'm not the authority on his matter I believe it is not possible to "emulate" virtualization of the samba server without major modifications to the source code, hence the issue with the multiple server string. Deploying samba in a true virtual environment like xen or VMware was the only way I was able to achieve a similar goal.

If it is possible I await the solution.

I have tried creating virtual adapters off of eth0 eg. eth0:0 eth0:1 etc each with its own ip on the local lan, but I haven't figured out how to run a different samba process on each virtual adapter.
When trying to run smbd and nmbd a second time with a different config file configured to a different interface, the processes quit straight away. (they appear to check if the process is already running, and if so, they quit).

I can live with aliases whose server description texts don't work, but it would be nice if they did work!. I'd have to take a look at the source code to see why netbios name alias works but not the server text, unless someone is already working on it?
