Hello, I am a newbie for Netbackup but after reading the admin guide for windows, I am still not quite sure how the backup and restore works. It looks like it is completely different from Backup Exec that I familiar with.

I post some of my questions:
1) does it still require to inventory a tape in Netbackup? how does it perform in the steps in Netbackup installed in Windows Platform?
2) Can I use the Netbackup administrator console to do the restoration and how in steps?
3) where I can see the entire backup catogary of which, when, which server and what have been backup like in Backup Exec Restore?

Thanks for the patient,
Fshguo.

NBU acts like most enterprise level backup software
with a few differences.

I will try and answer your question with what I know.
Though Bob will probably correct me on a few :)

1) NBU uses the "inventory" to scan a library for the following:
Contents
Contents vs. DB
Update contents
Import and update contents

It is as simple as right clicking on the robot from the gui and selecting "Inventory robot"

2) Yes you can use the console to do your restores
There is a section called "Backup, Archive and restore"
From there you would select the restore tab and then above that select source and destination clients along with the dates you were needing. It is pretty straight forward.

3) The only way (That I know) to see what was backed up from
the gui it to use the restore selections. The gui will show you if a job was successful and it will show you the image info but if you want to see if savemyjob.doc was backed up, you will need to browse it from the restore part of the gui.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Frank
