Get rid of the tapes. You may be able to contact the manufacturer and have them replace it. Some have a manufacturers lifetime warrantee.

Are the tapes write protected? You will get a media error if the tapes are write protected, but the error does state that the tapes are write protected.
If it's just a few tapes, I would do as Bob says and get rid of them.
