Hi,

I must configure the server DC1 to synchronize the time with an external source and be sure that all the servers in the domain get the time from DC1.
I should use net time + parameters but I really do not know really how do to it .

Thanks for your help

As pgaliardo states, the machines internal to the network should automatically sync with your first DC.

Configure the first DC to get time from an outside atomic clock.

Hi again,

A doc "says" I have to modify or control the registry:
"HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Parameters\NtpServer" and type the NTP server name as "Servername.xy.com,0x1"
Why 0x1, what means 0x1 ?

regards

Per the KB

Note Peers is a placeholder for a space-delimited list of peers from which your computer obtains time stamps. Each DNS name that is listed must be unique. You must append ,0x1 to the end of each DNS name. If you do not append ,0x1 to the end of each DNS name, the changes made in step 5 will not take effect.

Consider the 0x1 to be the code to show that you clicked APPLY.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

Instead of modifying the registry manually, why not use "net time /setsntp:<ntpsourcehere>". I've never added anything to the end of the switch other than the time source (eg time.microsoft.com or pool.ntp.org). This will automatically modify the registry, just restart the NTP service (net stop w32tm && net start w32tm) and it should synch from the external time source (provided the server can resolve the hostname and port 123 is open outbound on your firewall to the external time source).

But like the others pointed out, you should only do this on your PDC emulator, all other DC's will synchronize time from here, and all PC's, member servers etc, will synchronize their time from any available DC.

Hope this helps

Best of Luck
